Interim Report To Be Prepared On Election Laws

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government says a decision has been taken to prepare an interim report on the legal frameworks governing elections in Sri Lanka, excluding Provincial Council elections. 

Minister Professor Chandana Abeyratne said the report will be prepared based on views expressed by the public, political parties and other organizations.

A special parliamentary committee has been appointed to examine the legal frameworks governing elections and related matters.

The committee recently sought public views on the existing election laws, and a report compiled based on those submissions was presented to Parliament yesterday.

Professor Chandana Abeyratne also said the public views received were reviewed. nnnhidftyy into the report by a panel of experts.
