COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have held a high-level discussion on the country's development agenda for the 2026-2029 period, with a strong focus on prioritising key projects, accelerating economic development and achieving fiscal targets.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Secretariat, was co-chaired by Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and ADB Country Director for Sri Lanka Shannon Cowlin. Particular attention was given to identifying priority development projects that should be incorporated into the ADB's long-term development pipeline for Sri Lanka, as the country continues efforts to strengthen economic growth and improve infrastructure and public services.
Officials also reviewed mechanisms to ensure stronger government ownership of projects financed through ADB assistance, while enhancing coordination between government institutions and ADB procedures to improve efficiency and project delivery.
The effective utilisation of limited concessional financing and technical assistance resources also featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides exploring ways to maximise the impact of development funding.
