COLOMBO (News 1st); Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's wife, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, has made a request to the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court seeking anticipatory bail.
In her application, Shiranthi Rajapaksa has informed the court that there is a possibility she could be arrested at the airport upon her return to Sri Lanka after undergoing medical treatment abroad.
Accordingly, she has requested that she be released on bail under any conditions deemed appropriate by the court.
The respondent named in the application is the Officer-in-Charge of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Sri Lanka, departed for Singapore on the 16th of last month for further medical treatment.
This was despite being notified to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division on the 24th.
The summons had been issued in connection with an ongoing extensive investigation into transactions linked to the Siriliya Saviya Foundation, which was operated under her leadership.
