China Reaffirms Support for Sri Lanka’s Health Sector

COLOMBO (News 1st): New Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Wei Huaxiang, held his first official meeting with Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa on Tuesday, reaffirming the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Minister Jayatissa conveyed Sri Lanka's appreciation for the longstanding bilateral relationship between the two nations and acknowledged China's continued cooperation across a range of sectors.

The Minister also expressed gratitude for the Chinese Government's sustained assistance and generous contribution toward the development of Sri Lanka's healthcare sector, which has benefited from years of Chinese support through infrastructure, medical assistance and development projects.

A significant portion of the discussions focused on the recent incident at the Polonnaruwa National Nephrology Specialized Hospital, which was constructed with assistance from the Chinese Government. Both sides engaged in detailed discussions on matters relating to the incident and the way forward.
