Dengue Cases Cross 100,000 as Health Officials Sound Alarm

COLOMBO (News 1st) – 100,127 dengue cases have been reported across Sri Lanka so far this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.

Health authorities said the Gampaha District has recorded the highest number of infections, with 21,234 cases reported to date.

Community Physician Specialist Dr. Prasheela Samaraweera of the National Dengue Control Unit stated that the ongoing increase in dengue infections is largely linked to the prevailing rainy weather conditions, which have created favourable environments for mosquito breeding.

She further noted that seven provinces across the country continue to remain in the high-risk category for dengue transmissio.

In light of the situation, the National Dengue Control Unit has urged the public to take immediate steps to identify and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites in and around their homes and communities in order to curb the spread of dengue and reduce the risk of further infections.
