Drought Compensation Paid to 1,490 Farmers

COLOMBO (News1st);The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board states that compensation has been fully paid to 1,490 farmers affected by drought-induced crop damage.

The board mentioned that 1,115 acres belonging to these farmers sustained damage.

To date, Rs. 57 million has been disbursed in compensation.

An additional compensation amount of approximately Rs. 1,800 million is scheduled to be paid for this year, and the board further noted that the process of assessing crop damage rapidly and accurately to grant compensation is currently underway.

The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board added that 6,062 farmers whose crops were damaged due to drought conditions had submitted applications.

Furthermore, The board stated that around 7,957 acres of cultivated land belonging to farmers have been affected.
