Weather Warning: Slow Down, Switch On Lights, Keep Distance

COLOMBO (News 1st); Heavy rain is currently affecting Colombo and several surrounding areas, prompting authorities to issue safety advisories for motorists.

Police have urged drivers to exercise extra caution while travelling due to the prevailing wet weather conditions and reduced visibility on roads.

Police Spokesman Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler advised motorists to switch on their vehicle headlights while driving during periods of rain.

Meanwhile, the Expressway Operations and Maintenance Division has urged motorists using expressways to maintain a minimum distance of 50 metres between vehicles due to the prevailing rainy weather.

The division further advised drivers to keep their vehicle lights switched on at all times and reduce speed when travelling through rain-affected areas.

Authorities have urged all road users to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines as the wet weather is expected to continue in several parts of the country.
