Court Orders Wimal Weerawansa's Arrest Over UN Compound Protest

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday (21) ordered the arrest of former Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa and directed that he be produced before the court after he failed to appear in connection with an ongoing case.

The order was issued when the case was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and Weerawansa was not present before the court as required.

The case against the former MP relates to allegations that he caused a public disturbance by participating in a protest that obstructed traffic on the road opposite the United Nations compound in Colombo.
