Heavy Rainfall Above 100mm Expected In Several Areas

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Meteorology says heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is possible in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

The MET department said showers may occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western and Northern provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva Province and the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2 p.m.

Moderately strong winds of 30–40 km/h may occur at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the North Central and North Western provinces, and the Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.

The Meteorological Department has advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of accidents caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thundershowers.
