Speaker To Present Supreme Court Determination On 22nd Amendment To Parliament Next Week

COLOMBO (News 1st): Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Susil Ranasinghe says the Supreme Court determination on the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution is expected to be presented to Parliament by the Speaker next week.

The Minister made the statement while speaking to the media following an event held in Anuradhapura.

He said the Supreme Court has already forwarded its determination to the Speaker, who is expected to present it to Parliament next week.

Accordingly, time has been allocated in Parliament for a debate on the 22nd Amendment.

The Minister added that if required, a referendum will be held on the amendment.

He expressed hope that the public would support the proposed constitutional amendment, saying there is a public expectation that those responsible for corruption, particularly those accused of misusing public funds, should be held accountable.
