Trains Operating As Usual Despite Ongoing Railway Strike

COLOMBO (News1st); Sri Lanka Railways stated that despite several railway trade unions launching a strike from midnight the day before yesterday, trains are operating as usual today.

Spokesman Asanka Samarasinghe mentioned that morning office trains are also running as scheduled.

The Railway Station Masters' Union, the Assistant Engine Drivers' Union, and the Depot Workers' Union launched a strike starting from midnight the day before yesterday.

This action was taken demanding the immediate removal of the General Manager of Railways and protesting an administrative letter issued regarding an officer of the Station Masters' Union, which allegedly violates his rights.

The union action initiated in this manner is scheduled to end at midnight today.

General Manager of Railways Ravindra Pathmapriya stated that despite such trade union action, measures were taken yesterday as well to operate trains without causing inconvenience to passengers.

Trains have been operating as usual since this morning as well.
