16 Killed in Suspected Suicide Bombing Near Police Compound in NW Pakistan

At least 16 people, including five police officers and 11 civilians, have been killed in a suspected suicide bombing. 

A vehicle loaded with explosives rammed into a mosque in north-western Pakistan, allegedly targeting a police compound in northwestern Pakistan during Friday congregational prayers according to officials. 

A shootout had taken place between attackers and security forces at the site in the Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

One of the assailants has reportedly been killed, an officer says, and a rescue operation is under way.

The casualties occurred when an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the Old Police Lines gate in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a senior police official said, according to local broadcaster Geo News.

Kohat District Hospital's top officials has, confirmed that 15 bodies were brought to the health facility, besides wounded people.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has police identified the deceased as 11 civilians and five police officers.

Police said one individual was also killed after the explosion.

The explosion created a crater outside the mosque in the police compound.
