COLOMBO (News 1st): The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has risen to 98,249.

The highest number of cases has been reported from the Gampaha District, with 20,856 cases recorded.

Meanwhile, the number of high-risk MOH divisions has declined to 35.

July recorded the highest number of dengue cases so far this year, with 29,964 cases reported during the month.

The National Dengue Control Unit says 74 people have died after contracting the disease this year.

A special mosquito-control programme launched across seven provinces is currently underway and will continue until the day after tomorrow.

Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said the programme covers 62 MOH divisions across these provinces where a high prevalence of dengue mosquito larvae has been reported.
