COLOMBO (News 1st) - A Ugandan national who arrived in Sri Lanka after swallowing a quantity of cocaine capsules has been arrested by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit at the Bandaranayake International Airport in Katunayake.
The suspect had arrived in Sri Lanka early morning yesterday on a Qatar Airways flight from Entebbe International Airport in Uganda via Doha, Qatar.
Customs officers searched the suspect based on intelligence received by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit.
During the inspection, officers discovered that the suspect had allegedly swallowed 13 cocaine capsules.
The capsules weighed approximately 161 grams in total and had an estimated street value of around Rs. 7.245 million.
Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau.
The suspect has been admitted to the Negombo Hospital amid suspicions that he may have swallowed additional capsules containing narcotics.
