2026 Local Government Week Begins Today (14)

COLOMBO (News 1st) - ''Punarudaye Purawara" Township Renaissance – 2026 Local Government Week' A national development program in Sri Lanka spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government begins today (14).

The week-long programme will continue until the 19th, with each day dedicated to a different theme.

Today has been designated as Mobile Services and Revenue Promotion Day.

Tomorrow will be designated for Public Utilities.

The day after tomorrow will be dedicated to Environment and Tree Planting.

The 17th of September has been designated as Health and Sanitation Day.

Literature, Education, Libraries and Sports Day will be observed on the 18th of September.

On the 19th , the Clean Sri Lanka “Aththama” Programme will be held followed by the closing ceremony of Local Government Week in the afternoon.

Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath said more than 4,000 programmes are planned to be conducted across the island during the week.
