Two Inmates Escape from Pallekele Open Prison Camp

COLOMBO (News 1st): Two inmates have escaped from the Pallekele Open Prison Camp, prompting an urgent search operation involving both prison authorities and the Police.

Prisons Spokesman Senaka Palletenna stated that the two escapees are suspects who had been detained in connection with drug-related offences.

According to prison officials, the escape was discovered during a routine inmate check when authorities found that the two detainees were missing from the facility.

Following the discovery, prison authorities immediately launched investigations and initiated a search operation to locate the escapees.

The Department of Prisons said Police assistance has also been sought as efforts continue to track down and apprehend the two suspects.
