COLOMBO (News 1st): The Lanka Sugar Company Pvt Ltd. says it has incurred a loss of Rs. 250 million due to the temporary closure of the Sewanagala Sugar Factory following a workers’ strike.
Chairman, Athula Kumara, said that although employees had reported for duty from August 25, factory operations had been disrupted as production activities did not resume properly.
Accordingly, the management temporarily closed the Sewanagala Sugar Factory from August 29.
Chairman said discussions were recently held with the employees at the Ministry of Industries.
He added that production activities at the factory resumed on the 5th of September following an agreement during the discussions to resolve the employees’ concerns.
