COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Sri Lanka Railways Department has issued a special circular banning the use of social media during duty hours and the publication of sensitive information related to railway operations.

The circular was issued after authorities observed a trend among certain officials of sharing sensitive information concerning railway operations on social media during working hours.

Sri Lanka Railways stated that officials and employees are prohibited from posting information about railway operations, internal decisions, or official documents on social media from train control rooms, engine control rooms, workshops, or any other railway premises.

Under the new circular, only the General Manager of Railways, the Railway Spokesperson, and the Information Officer are authorized to provide official railway information to external parties or the media.
