COLOMBO (News 1st); All passengers travelling in vehicles on Sri Lanka's expressways will be required to wear seat belts from September 19, under a new road safety measure aimed at reducing injuries and fatalities in road accidents.
The National Council for Road Safety announced that the regulation will apply to all vehicles operating on expressways, making the use of seat belts mandatory for every occupant.
Chairman of the National Council for Road Safety, Manjula Kularatne, said the one-year grace period granted to vehicles that were not originally manufactured with seat belts will also come to an end on the same date.
