Suspect Arrested Over Alleged Plot to Assassinate Prison Officers

COLOMBO (News 1st); A suspect accused of planning to assassinate prison officers has been arrested by the Sahaspura Police.

Police said the suspect, a 30-year-old resident of Badovita, was arrested in connection with the plan.

Upon inspecting the suspect's mobile phone, it was revealed that he had been planning to murder two prison officers under the instructions of "Kos Malli," an organized criminal and drug trafficker operating from overseas

Police also found audio recordings of conversations between the suspect and Kos Malli on the mobile phone.

According to police, the suspect had been released on bail just three days before the unrest at the New Magazine Prison.

He is also said to be a close associate of Mohamed Asman, an organized criminal who was killed during the unrest at the prison.

Police said Asman had acted as the gunman in a double murder on Watarappola Road in Dehiwala last year.
