Report Sought Over Abandonment of Four-Year-Old Girl in Wattegama

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has called for a report following an incident involving a four-year-old girl who was abandoned by the roadside in Wattegama.

Deputy Minister Dr. Namal Sudarshana said the National Child Protection Authority and the Department of Probation and Child Care Services are taking steps to ensure the child’s future welfare.

The four-year-old girl was found abandoned on the 13th of August in Mudunegammedda of Wattegama.

The child is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Kandy.

The 37-year-old mother of the child and her 28-year-old paramour were arrested yesterday in Hali-Ela.

Police also said that information had emerged indicating that the suspects had assaulted the child.
