Textbooks Meant for Students Go Missing; Suspect Arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st); A police investigation has been launched into the disappearance of a consignment of school textbooks that was scheduled to be distributed to students.

The investigation was initiated by the Thalangama Police following a complaint lodged by the Educational Publications Department regarding the missing shipment.

According to police, the missing consignment consists of Tamil-language activity books and textbooks for the third term of Grade One classes in the Eastern Province.

Authorities estimate the value of the missing books at over Rs. 800,000.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the Educational Publications Department had handed over the consignment to a transport company for distribution. However, according to the complaint, the company had failed to deliver the books to their intended destinations.

Police confirmed that one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the incident as investigations continue.
