US Appoints Eric Meyer as New Ambassador to Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st): Career diplomat Eric Meyer has been officially sworn in as the next United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka during a ceremony at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

 

The oath of office was officiated by Deputy Secretary of State Landau, marking the formal commencement of Meyer’s tenure before he assumes his diplomatic posting in Colombo.

 

A distinguished Senior Foreign Service Officer, Ambassador Meyer brings extensive expertise in South and Central Asian affairs to the role. Most recently, he served as the Senior Bureau Official for the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA), where he played a key role in directing U.S. regional policy and engagement.

 

 

Following the swearing-in, the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs publicly congratulated Ambassador Meyer, highlighting his deep regional experience and wishing him great success in his new role in Sri Lanka.

​The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka also warmly welcomed the appointment on behalf of its entire team, expressing enthusiasm for working under Ambassador Meyer’s leadership. Embassy officials reiterated their commitment to expanding bilateral collaboration, aiming to deepen the partnership between the United States and Sri Lanka while advancing key shared interests and strategic priorities.
