Fisheries Ministry Seeks Report on Declining Fish Catch

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Fisheries has requested a scientific report from the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) on the fish population in the Sea of Sri Lanka

Deputy Minister of Fisheries Rathna Gamage said fishermen have reported a decline in their fish catch.

He added that a detailed assessment has also been requested on the potential impact of an El Niño condition on fish stocks and fishing yields.

The Deputy Minister said necessary measures regarding fishing activities and fish stocks will be taken based on the recommendations of the report.
