President Calls for Science to Drive Economic Growth

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says scientific research must be directly linked to improving the quality of life of the people while also contributing to the growth of the national economy.

The President made these remarks during the 2027 pre-budget discussion of the Ministry of Science and Technology held at the Presidential Secretariat.

He also highlighted the importance of ensuring that scientific research contributes to economic advancement, noting that innovation and technology have played a decisive role in the development of some of the world's highest-income nations.

The President further stressed the need to establish a special unit under the Ministry of Science and Technology to coordinate and facilitate funding for research divisions operating under various ministries.
