Air Force Honors Golden Boy Rumesh Tharanga | Promoted To Rank Of Sergeant

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Air Force Corporal Rumesh Tharanga, who brought immense pride to the nation by winning a historic gold medal in the javelin throw at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games while defeating world champions in the process, has been promoted in recognition of his outstanding achievement.

The Sri Lanka Air Force announced that Air Force Commander Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe had approved the promotion of Tharanga from the rank of Corporal to Sergeant in appreciation of his exceptional performance on the international stage and his previous sporting accomplishments.

Tharanga's remarkable achievement has been widely hailed as one of Sri Lanka's greatest successes at the Commonwealth Games, with his gold medal-winning performance elevating the country's profile in international athletics.

In addition to the promotion, the Air Force Commander also presented a special financial reward to the champion athlete in recognition of his contribution to Sri Lankan sport and the honour he brought to the country.

The Air Force also paid tribute to the team behind the athlete's success, awarding cash rewards to his coach, Tony Prasanna, and physiotherapist Corporal Chandima Gurusinghe for their dedication and support in helping Tharanga reach the pinnacle of Commonwealth Games competition.
