396kg of Drugs Seized in Just Nine Months

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Customs has revealed that it has seized more than 396 kilograms of narcotics worth an estimated street value of Rs. 4.5 billion through a series of anti-drug operations conducted over the past nine months.

According to Sri Lanka Customs Spokesman Chandana Punchihewa, the detections were made between October 30, 2025 and July 2026, during which Customs carried out 55 drug-related operations that resulted in a significant number of arrests and seizures.

Speaking on the latest anti-narcotics efforts, Punchihewa said the seizures included a range of illicit substances intercepted through Customs enforcement activities.

Customs also recorded a series of successful operations during July 2026 alone.

"In July 2026 alone, Sri Lanka Customs conducted five successful detections, leading to the seizure of more than 25 kilograms of narcotics," Punchihewa stated.

He said the drugs most frequently detected by Customs officers were Kush, marijuana and other cannabis-related substances. However, authorities also intercepted harder narcotics, including cocaine and Ice, commonly known as methamphetamine.

According to Customs data, the combined quantity of all narcotics seized during July this year amounted to 25.4 kilograms.
