COLOMBO (News 1st): Today marks World Hepatitis Day.
Its objective is to strengthen the steps required to eliminate hepatitis by the year 2030.
Hepatitis transmission occurs through infections of the hepatitis B and C viruses during sexual intercourse.
Dr. Nimali Jayasuriya, a Specialist in Sexually Transmitted Diseases and AIDS, stated that Sri Lanka has now initiated a program to administer vaccines to pregnant mothers after screening their blood in order to prevent the transmission of the virus.
