COLOMBO (News 1st): Priyalal Bandula Preethi Jayawardena, the owner of a well-known garment retail establishment, was today ordered to be further remanded until August 6 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Oshada Migara Mahaarachchi after rejecting a bail application filed on behalf of the suspect.

During proceedings, the defence argued that the complaint against the suspect could not be legally maintained. However, the Magistrate ruled that the objections raised by the defence were without merit and rejected the request to invalidate the complaint.

The court further dismissed a defence application seeking the suspect’s release under Section 115 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, noting that the facts presented by the complainant established sufficient grounds for judicial inquiry and further legal proceedings.

The suspect was arrested over allegations that he violated the Customs Ordinance by importing goods valued at more than Rs. 1 million.
