Chinese National in Rs. 20 Mn Theft Flees Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); A Chinese national who was allegedly robbed of Rs. 20 million in Kollupitiya (Colpetty) has left Sri Lanka, investigators have revealed as police continue their probe into the high-profile case.

The development emerged during investigations being conducted by the Colombo Central Crimes Division into the alleged robbery.

Police also stated that steps had been taken to launch a separate investigation into how the Chinese national obtained the substantial sum of money. However, authorities confirmed that the individual has now departed the country.

Meanwhile, the Court ordered that five suspects, including the son of former State Minister Shanta Bandara, be released on bail in connection with the alleged robbery involving the Rs. 20 million reportedly belonging to the Chinese national. They were remanded until today (27).

Anuda Dinajith Bandara was arrested by Kollupitiya Police in connection with the alleged robbery, which reportedly took place on the 13th of this month.

According to Police, the incident is alleged to have occurred while the Chinese national was transporting the cash in a vehicle.

The Police further disclosed that the grandson of a prominent businessman is also among those implicated in the investigation.

Authorities are continuing inquiries into both the alleged robbery and the origin of the Rs. 20 million, as the case draws increasing public attention due to the involvement of several high-profile individuals and the departure of the Chinese national at the centre of the investigation.
