Rs. 16.5 Mn Chair Deal Lands Ex-Chief Secretary in Bribery Probe

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Southern Province Chief Secretary Rannulu Chandrasiri de Soysa has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The arrest was made over corruption allegations relating to the procurement of chairs for voluntary organizations in the Southern Province using Southern Provincial Council member allocations.

According to the Bribery Commission, the allegations relate to the selection of a manufacturing company outside the prescribed procurement process, thereby granting an undue advantage to the institution and causing a financial loss to the State.

The Commission stated that a sum of Rs. 16.5 million had been spent in 2019 on the purchase of chairs under the approval and supervision of the suspect.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today.
