St. Bridget’s Choir Bags Gold, Silver In Singapore

COLOMBO (News 1st): As St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo, moves closer to celebrating 125 years of excellence, its choir has brought immense pride to Sri Lanka, delivering a remarkable performance on the international stage.

The school’s choir achieved a remarkable international feat, winning one Gold Award and two Silver Awards at the prestigious Singapore International Choir Festival (SICF) 2026.

Represented by a delegation of nearly 175 students, one of the largest contingents at the festival, the young choristers showcased exceptional talent, discipline, and versatility across three competitive categories.

The choir secured the Gold Award in the Equal Voices category for participants aged 12 and below. They also won Silver Awards in the Musica Sacra Open and Folklore Open categories.

The Folklore Open performance stood out as a celebration of Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, combining traditional melodies, intricate harmonies, and vibrant choreography to create a captivating showcase on the international stage.

The achievement was made possible through the dedicated guidance of Choir Directresses and past pupils Priyanthi Seneviratne Van Dort and Harindi De Silva, with choreography by Malinthi Kulathunga and piano accompaniment by Maneesh Dasanayake.

The school also acknowledged the leadership and vision of Principals Rev. Sr. Sujani Fernando and Rev. Sr. Dilrukshika Silva, whose support enabled the choir’s participation on such a large scale international festival. 

The performance was further strengthened by specialized training in traditional drums and flutes, while support from the Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore, the Singapore-Sri Lanka Business Association, sponsors, parents, well-wishers, and alumni played a vital role in making this achievement possible.

This historic accomplishment adds another proud chapter to the legacy of St. Bridget’s Convent, as the institution prepares to celebrate 125 years of excellence in education and the arts.
