COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has granted permission to detain and question Anuda Dinajith Bandara, the son of former State Minister Shantha Bandara, for 24 hours in connection with the alleged robbery of Rs. 20 million belonging to a Chinese national.
The order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena after considering a request made by officers of the Colombo Central Crimes Division, who are conducting investigations into the incident.
Anuda Dinajith Bandara, aged 21, was arrested yesterday by the Kollupitiya Police in connection with the alleged robbery, which reportedly took place on the 13th of this month.
According to the Police Spokesman, the robbery is alleged to have occurred while the Chinese national was transporting the cash in a vehicle.
Police said investigations have so far led to the arrest of four suspects in connection with the incident, all of whom have been remanded pending further inquiries.
The Police Spokesman further revealed that the grandson of a well-known businessman is also among those implicated in the case.
