COLOMBO (News 1st) - The body of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne will lie in state at a private funeral parlour in Borella from today.
Police said the final rites will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Borella Cemetery.
Mortal remains have been sent to the Government Analyst for further investigations.
Police also said that the former IGP's mobile phone has been taken into police custody.
They added that a court order will be obtained before the device is subjected to further forensic examination.
The pistol believed to have been used by the former IGP has also been taken into police custody and will be forwarded to the Government Analyst for examination.
Statements have been recorded from the former IGP's spouse and the three police officers assigned to his security as part of the investigation.
Former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne died from a gunshot wound at his residence in Thalahena on Friday morning.
He was 63 years old at the time of his death.
Police stated that, based on the instructions of Inspector General of Police Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya, investigations are being carried out by the Western Province South Special Investigation Unit and the Malabe Police.
