Former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne Dies After Shooting Himself

COLOMBO (News 1st);Former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne has died after after shooting himself.

Police Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler said that he had shot himself with his service firearm at his residence in Thalahena.

His remains have been placed at the Mulleriyawa Hospital.

C.D. Wickramaratne, who served as the 35th Inspector General of Police in Sri Lanka, joined the police service in 1986 as a Probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police.

He was a graduate of the University of Colombo and the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.

C.D. Wickramaratne served as the Acting Inspector General of Police for more than one year from April 28, 2019.

He was appointed as the Inspector General of Police on November 28, 2020.

C.D. Wickramaratne retired from the post of Inspector General of Police on November 27, 2023.

He was 63 years old at the time of his death.
