Sri Lankan Businessman Fined Rs. 1 Million For Smuggling Gold At BIA

COLOMBO (News 1st): A Sri Lankan national was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for attempting to smuggle a stock of gold valued at Rs. 11,885,514 into the country.

The arrest was made by a team of officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau.

The suspect is a 53-year-old businessman and a resident of Matale.

Police stated that 12 gold chains, 10 gold bracelets, and 2 gold biscuits weighing 271 grams and 480 mg were discovered in the luggage carried by the suspect.

Police added that the stock of gold was confiscated and the passenger was fined Rs. 1,000,000.
