Four Police Teams Assigned To Investigate Death Of Weligama Physiotherapist

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police say that four teams have been assigned in connection with the investigations to apprehend the main suspect in the death of a physiotherapist from Weligama.

The victim’s body was found inside a car near Teldeniya Hospital on the 17th of June.

Police said information was uncovered regarding a suspect accused in more than 20 corruption and fraud cases, several of which are currently being heard in courts.

The suspect is a resident of Narammala in Kurunegala. 

Police have recorded statements from members of his family.

Investigations have revealed that he had close relationships with several women and had allegedly used a fake National identity card while posing as a software engineer.

He is also reported to have maintained a relationship with a mother of three, who is currently in hiding.

Police said the car in which the body was found also belongs to a woman who had a relationship with the suspect.

The body of the deceased was handed over to her family after the post-mortem examination, which returned an open verdict on the cause of death.

The deceased was a 33-year-old physiotherapist from Weligama attached to the Ampara Hospital. She had been on a tour in the Nuwara Eliya area from the 3rd to the 16th of June.

Further Investigations into the incident are aunderway.
