BIA Customs Make Major Drug Bust: Student Arrested With Rs. 377M Hashish Haul

COLOMBO (News 1st); A 23-year-old University student from the Dominican Republic was arrested by the Bandaranaike International Airport Customs while attempting to smuggle a haul of hashish valued at 377 million rupees into the country.

He had obtained the hashish in Canada and arrived in Sri Lanka via Dubai.

Sri Lanka Customs stated that the hashish, weighing 37 kilograms and 639 grams, was discovered concealed in 146 packets inside his two suitcases.

Customs officials noted that the seized narcotics and the suspect were handed over to the BIA Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.

Sri Lanka Customs said that this is the first time a large consignment of “hashish” narcotic drugs of such high value has been seized at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
