Love, Money, and Murder? Police Hunt Software Engineer Boyfriend

COLOMBO (News 1st); An investigation is underway after the body of a 34-year-old woman was discovered inside a parked vehicle near the Theldeniya Hospital, prompting police to deploy three special teams to probe the circumstances surrounding the death.

Senior police officials confirmed that, in addition to local investigators, the Nuwara Eliya Divisional Crimes Investigation Division has also launched parallel inquiries into the incident.

The woman’s body was found yesterday inside a car parked close to the hospital premises in Theldeniya. Police have stated that the case is being treated as a suspected murder.

The deceased has been identified as a 34-year-old woman from the Kurundukotuwa area in Weligama. 

She had been working as a physiotherapist at the Ampara Hospital and had reportedly resigned from her position on June 11, stating that she intended to travel overseas.

Investigations have revealed that the woman had recently stayed at a lodging facility in Nuwara Eliya along with a man believed to be her boyfriend.

According to police, CCTV footage has captured a disturbing moment, allegedly showing the man carrying the woman away on the night before the body was discovered.

The suspect has been identified as a software engineer residing in the Gannoruwa area in Kandy. Authorities believe that both individuals had been planning to travel abroad in the near future.

Police further revealed that the woman had allegedly provided the suspect with a sum of Rs. 15 million, obtained through a bank loan.

Despite these developments, the main suspect has not yet been arrested, and police have intensified efforts to locate him as investigations continue.
