COLOMBO (News 1st); A special medical board comprising five members, including expert judicial medical officers and specialist psychiatrists, has been appointed by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court to examine whether former Director of the State Intelligence Service, Suresh Salley, was subjected to torture while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The Magistrate issued a directive that the suspect must undergo the medical examination prior to the next court hearing.
The court further ordered that the examination be conducted at the South Colombo Teaching Hospital, where the panel of specialists will assess both physical and psychological aspects to determine whether any form of mistreatment or abuse occurred while Salley was in custody.
During proceedings, the Magistrate noted that the medical report previously submitted to court regarding the suspect was not a comprehensive report, and therefore it could not be relied upon to conclude whether the suspect had been subjected to torture while in detention.
Suresh Salley is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Colombo.
