COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sashikala Premawardhane, formally presented her Letters of Credence to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on June 8, 2026.
The ceremonial occasion, marked by a Guard of Honour and the formal presentation of credentials, highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
The event concluded with a group courtesy call on President Subianto, symbolizing a renewed commitment to deepening bilateral engagement.
During the meeting, Ambassador Premawardhane conveyed warm greetings from Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s dedication to enhancing cooperation with Indonesia.
She highlighted her intention to broaden engagement across multiple sectors and explore new opportunities for collaboration, particularly as both countries prepare to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in August 2027.
President Subianto welcomed the Sri Lankan envoy and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure, expressing confidence in the continued growth and strengthening of ties between Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Premawardhane brings more than 28 years of distinguished service in diplomacy to her new role. A senior figure in Sri Lanka’s Foreign Service, she has held several key positions both at home and abroad. Prior to her appointment in Jakarta, she served as Additional Secretary (Bilateral Political Affairs – East) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism in Colombo.
Her extensive diplomatic portfolio includes serving as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Singapore from June 2019 to September 2023.
