24-Year Prison Term for Abuse of 10-Year-Old Boy

COLOMBO (News 1st); A robe-clad individual attached to a temple in Sivalakulama, Galenbindunuwewa in Anuradhapura, has been sentenced to 24 years of rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty of the serious abuse of a 10-year-old boy.

The sentence was handed down by Anuradhapura High Court Presiding Judge Ruwan Dhammika Dissanayake, who found the individual guilty on two indictments filed by the Attorney General.

The court also ordered the accused to pay Rs. 500,000 in compensation to the child victim.

The robe-clad individual, who committed the offence against the 10-year-old boy entrusted to the temple by his parents for education, is currently absconding and has evaded court proceedings.

It was revealed during the trial that the abuse took place between May 1 and May 24, 2015.
