COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has announced a series of temporary closures across the country in observance of the 2570th Vesak Festival.

Authorities have decided to shut down meat stalls, slaughterhouses, meat outlets in supermarkets, as well as betting centres, casinos, and social clubs for three consecutive days, May 30, May 31, and June 1.

The measure forms part of the wider observance of National Vesak Week, which officially begins today and will continue until June 2.

The State Vesak Festival is set to take place this afternoon at the historic Mihidellawa Ancient Temple in Tihagoda, Matara, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
