7 Suspected Meningitis Cases at Angunakolapelessa Prison

COLOMBO (News 1st): An inmate at the Angunukolapelessa Prison has been confirmed to have contracted meningitis.

Dr. Ayanthi Jayawardena, Director of the Hambantota Hospital, stated that seven other inmates, with symptoms suspected to be meningitis have also been admitted to the hospital. 

Their medical reports have been submitted for further verification.

Meanwhile, the Department of Prisons stated that an inmate held at the Angunukolapelessa Prison passed away recently due to a sudden illness. Prison Spokesperson A.C. Gajanayake noted that the exact cause of death has not yet been revealed.

The other eight inmates were hospitalized following this incident.
