Death penalty for five in Bataduwa murder case

COLOMBO (News 1st): Five individuals who attacked and killed a person with poles in Bataduwa area of Batapola in Meetiyagoda, were sentenced to death by the Balapitiya High Court. 

Balapitiya High Court Judge Ruchira Weliwatte imposed the death penalty yesterday on Kulappuwawadu Wasantha Jayalath, Kulappuwawadu Pearl Bandula, Kulappuwawadu Nandana Pathmakeerthi, Siddha Marakkala Janaka Nanda Kumara, and Hinidumage Lahiru Maduranga, who are all residents of Bataduwa in Batapola.

The defendants had beaten Gusthinna Wadu Manjula, a resident of Bataduwa, Batapola, to death with poles on or around July 29, 2007.
