116 Suspected Meningitis Cases Reported Across the Island

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health states that 116 patients suspected of contracting meningitis have been reported from several areas across the island so far.

Dr. Palitha Karunapema, Chief Epidemiologist of the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health, said that the disease spreads primarily through contaminated food or water.

Among the identified patients, 28 are from Diyatalawa , 25 from Rikillagaskada, 13 from Welimada and 50 from Deniyaya.

Dr. Palitha Karunapema further stated that measures are actively being taken to prevent the spread of the disease.

Health authorities are also advising the public to follow safety and hygienic practices, especially with the prevailing rainy weather.
