COLOMBO (News 1st) - Officials from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development say that the census activities related to the first phase of the Aswesuma programme will conclude on May 31.
In a statement, the ministry said that census officers will visit the homes of applicants as part of the data collection process.
Accordingly, the ministry has requested the public to provide accurate information to the officers.
The ministry also warned that legal action will be taken against individuals who submit false information during the Aswesuma census process.
It further stated that providing false or misleading information with the intention of obtaining welfare benefits is an offence under the Welfare Benefits Act and offenders may face imprisonment for a period of up to one year.
