COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Digital Economy has announced that a Cabinet paper seeking approval for the establishment of a National Data Exchange Centre will be submitted within this month.
Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne stated that the proposed centre will be set up with legal provisions to facilitate data sharing among government institutions as part of ongoing digitalisation and networking efforts across the public sector.
He noted that the establishment of the Data Exchange Centre will create opportunities for seamless data sharing between institutions.
The Deputy Minister further explained that the initiative would ease public access to services, as citizens would no longer be required to visit multiple institutions to complete a single task.
However, he emphasised that citizen consent will be mandatory for transferring data from one institution to another.
Eranga Weeraratne also assured that the National Data Exchange Centre would be established under a formal legal framework.
