Election Commission Summoned Before Parliamentary Committee

COLOMBO (News 1st): Members of the Election Commission have been summoned before the Parliamentary Special Committee appointed to present recommendations for holding the Provincial Council elections.

The Election Commission stated that they have been notified to appear before the Special Committee tomorrow.

The Special Committee appointed to investigate and report on the electoral system under which the Provincial Council elections should be held, and to submit its proposals and recommendations has previously met on several occasions under the chairmanship of Minister Vijitha Herath.

The Attorney General's Department was also summoned before the Special Committee recently.

During that meeting, the committee instructed them to submit a report on the legal obstacles to holding the Provincial Council elections.
