Mahason Balakaya Leader and Wife Remanded in Cabana Project Scam Case

COLOMBO (News 1st); The leader of the Mahason Balakaya organization, Amit Weerasinghe, and his wife have been remanded until May 25 after being produced before the Teldeniya Magistrate’s Court.

The court also ordered a travel ban on the suspect couple.

They were arrested yesterday in connection with allegations of defrauding individuals by claiming to operate a cabana project in the Ella and Pallekele areas.

Police stated that investigations have revealed the suspects had obtained advance payments ranging between Rs. 4 million and Rs. 5 million per cabana.

Authorities further noted that a large number of individuals claiming to have given money to the suspects have already lodged complaints with the Teldeniya Police.

Further investigations into the incident are currently underway.
